Star 5-Diamond Test Day Policies

Test Days are an important part of a skater’s development, providing the opportunity to demonstrate skills and progress within Skate Canada’s assessment structure. This policy outlines the procedures and expectations that ensure East York Skating Club’s Test Days are fair, organized, and supportive for all participants aligned with Skate Canada’s guidelines. All skaters, coaches, and families are expected to follow these guidelines to help create a smooth and positive testing experience

  1. Registration & Eligibility

  • Coach Determines Readiness - A skater’s private coach decides when they are ready to attempt a Skate Canada test and submits their name to the club’s Test Day Chair

  • Membership in Good Standing - Skaters must be current Skate Canada members in good standing with all club and coaching fees paid to participate.

  • All pre-requisites for submitted assessments will be verified on the Skate Canada Membership site by Test Day Chair, or delegate

  1. Scheduling & Communication

  • Three (3) weeks before Test Day coaches will submit names of skaters and tests.  Coaches, parents, + skaters are encouraged to discuss testing plans in advance.

  • Two (2) weeks before Test Day is the “Pull Date & Pay By Deadline” This is the last day to withdraw from a test

  • One (1) week before the schedule will be finalized, after approvals by EYSC Board + external evaluator(s).  The schedule will be shared via email with skaters and parents and posted on the EYSC Test Day Boards

  • Should a skater be submitted for conditional test(s)*, they will be included in the schedule for the pre-requisite test(s) and the conditional test(s)

  • Skaters should arrive at the arena at least 30 minutes before their scheduled warm-up time

  1. Fees & Payment

  • Assessment fees are published on the EYSC website

  • Payments are due at minimum three days prior to the Test Day; reminder emails will go out to skaters and/or parents in advance with instructions on how to pay.

  • Guest skaters who are attending an EYSC Star 6-Gold Test Day, will pay for their test fees along with the $40 Non-EYSC Member Test Fee

  • If a skater is ill and unable to try an Assessment, a healthcare professional's note (from dr, physio, chiro etc) must be given to the Assessment Chair before Assessment day.  Lack of attendance on Assessment Day or late “pulls” will unfortunately result in the assignment of “Retry” on the Assessment and the Assessment fees must be paid and will not be refunded

  • For conditional test(s), skaters will be charged the assessment fee for submitted conditional test(s) and submitted pre-requisite test(s).  Should the skater not pass the pre-requisite(s), they will not be entitled to a refund for submitted conditional tests

  • Challenge Assessments will have a different fee according to Skate Canada policies

  1. Attire & Parent Conduct

  • Skaters should wear neat, appropriate skating clothing or competition attire as advised by their coach. Warm layers may be worn before the actual test

  • Parents may attend in stands/lobby but areasked not to engage evaluators directly

  • Parent volunteers are needed to execute EYSC test days; please connect with the Test Day Chair to advise how you can support one or more test days during the season

  1. Evaluators & Testing

  • Qualified Skate Canada Evaluators  - Tests are evaluated by certified Skate Canada evaluators or judges appropriate for the test level, organized by the EYSC Test Day Chair

  • Tests are assessed independently against the Skate Canada Standards; results are not comparative among skaters

  • After completing their test(s), skaters need to wait to receive their results from their coach

  • Dances:  For Star 1 - 8, skaters must pass all the assessments in a level before moving to the next level. STAR 9, 10 and Gold permit skaters to pass two of three dances at each level to be considered complete

  • Challenge Tests can be completed in accordance with Skate Canada Guidelines as long as pre-requisites are achieved prior to test day

*A Conditional Test is a Skate Canada test attempted on the same day as its required prerequisite test.
