Dear Wednesday Pre-Bronze Skaters,
Unfortunately, due to a permitting error, we are unable to begin our first session today. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.
A credit will be applied to each skater’s account, which can be used toward Ice Show, test days, or future registrations.
Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on the ice next week!

PROGRAM ASSISTANT - TRAINING

We are looking for Program Assistants!
The club would like to extend an invitation to our bronze, silver and gold skaters to join our coaching team as Program Assistants (PA’s) for the upcoming skating season!
PAs help our coaches in the delivery of the Pre-Canskate, CanSkate and Fundamentals programs and contribute to the overall success of the EYSC’s CanSkate program.
If you are highly motivated, willing to assist younger skaters and work with our Professional Coaching Staff we want you! Your participation is crucial to the success of these programs. Skaters will select the sessions they are available for and are asked to commit to them weekly for the season.
Duties of a Program Assistant
-
Demonstrate & reinforce skills (follow up on coach instruction)
-
Assist coaches with warm-up, group activity and cool-down
-
Assist with set-up & clean-up (pylons, group colours on the wall, toys)
-
Hand out flyers, stickers
-
Lead skaters from station to station
-
Encourage skaters
Benefits of being a Program Assistant

PA jacket for the season
-
Pizza & Completion Certificate at the end of the training session
-
Experience can be used on your resume or as a reference for jobs in the future
-
Use this towards high school hours OR Earn a $5 credit for every hour worked as a program assistant that can be used towards registration, test days etc.

Candidates Must Be:

a minimum of 10 years of age as of September 2025

able to attend the program assistant training seminar on Tuesday, September 9th from 5:30-7:00pm
Even if skaters have participated in the training session before, we highly recommend attending each year. As there may be changes to our program.

6:20-7:00pm - Meet in the Lobby for Session Info, Jacket Try on, Pizza & Certificates
We will also take photos of the skaters to post on bulletin boards, social media, and our website.

SKATING SEASON WRAP UP

Thursday, June 5th is the last day of skating for this season. The ice at the facility is removed over the summer, but we’ll be back with fall sessions in September.
As current members, you’ll receive early access to fall registration, which will open in August—so keep an eye out for that email!

PAJAMA WEEK & SEASON WRAP UP

We’re thrilled to welcome you to the East York Skating Club’s Spring 2025 programs! Please see below for important information to get ready for the season:
Session Dates:

Tuesday Sessions: April 29 – June 3

Thursday Sessions: May 1 – June 5
Required Equipment: All skaters must have:
-
Sharpened Skates (hockey or figure skates)
Please avoid plastic skates, as they hinder proper ankle and knee flexion. -
CSA-Approved Hockey Helmet
Mandatory until completion of Level 5. A cage is recommended for Pre-Can skaters. -
Mitts/Gloves (for protection and warmth)
-
Coat
-
Waterproof Pants (recommended for Pre-Can/beginner skaters practicing falls and standing)

Arena Entry & Check-In:
-
Arrive early to allow time for parking and getting ready.
-
Allow at least 15 minutes before ice time to put on skates and helmets.
-
For the first session, a volunteer will be at the lobby desk handing out nametags.
-
Sticker nametags go on helmets.
-
A colored dot will indicate your skater’s group.
-
-
Proceed downstairs to select a changeroom.
New: Attached is a sign to show which arena doors skaters should use to enter and exit the ice. Please follow these signs to help keep traffic flowing smoothly!
Session Structure:

First Day:
Skaters will be grouped based on current levels. New skaters will start at Level 1.
If your skater is transferring from another club, please email us their achievements so we can update their profile! -
Group Changes:
Over the first few weeks, skaters may move groups based on coach assessments to find the best fit. Group colour stickers will be updated as needed. -
Program Flow:

Pre-Can: 30-minute sessions with a dedicated coach.

CanSkate, Tween, Teen, Fundamentals:

Group warm-up
-
Skill-based group classes
-
Group activity and cool-down
-
Starting Week 2, skaters will rotate through 3 different stations focusing on:

Balance (forward skating, edges, crossovers)
-
Agility (turns, spins, jumps)
-
Control (stopping, skating backward, speed)

Station rotation ensures all skaters benefit from diverse coaching styles and consistent skill progressions!
Badge System and Progress Reports:
-
Skaters will earn ribbons and badges as they master skills.
-
To achieve a badge, skaters must earn ribbons in all three categories: Balance, Agility, and Control.
Example: Agility 1 + Balance 1 + Control 1 = Stage 1 Badge -
Skaters may progress at different rates in each area, and that’s perfectly normal!

CanSkate: Working on Badges 1–2
-
Fundamentals: Working on Badges 3–6
-
Progress Reports:
At the end of the season, skaters’ report cards will be available for viewing online through your Uplifter account.
Ribbons and badges will be handed out during the final session to celebrate your skater’s achievements!
Important Reminders:

A guardian must remain at the rink during all sessions in case of emergencies.

This year, we are renting costumes for the show, so procedures will differ from previous years. Please read this email carefully — it contains important details and key dates you need to be aware of.
Costume Pick-Up & Return
Costume Pick-Up Times:

If you’re unable to attend, a friend or family member may pick up your costume.
Costume Return:

Saturday, April 26th – after the final evening show
Costumes must be left in the designated dressing room immediately after the show.

Skaters are responsible for their costumes from the time of pick-up until the end of the final performance.
