RISING STAR AUDITION REMINDER - SEPTEMBER 18 2025
posted Sep 17, 2025, 2:19 PM
Hello EYSC Members!
Our Rising Star Auditions will be this Thursday, September 18th, at 5:20 PM
Is your Canskater working on badge 3 - 6?
Do they have a passion for figure skating, the drive to excel or the dream to compete?
We have a few spaces remaining in our Rising Stars Program and are opening up spots for a 1-day audition for any skaters who want to try out!
This invitation-only program comprises 4-9-year-old skaters identified by our coaching staff or who as having a natural talent for figure skating and runs concurrently with our Canskate and Fundamentals programs. This means your skater will have the unique opportunity of working towards completing their Canskate badges and STAR 1 figure skating tests all in the same skating season. STAR 1 is Skate Canada's first level of competitive figure skating and is geared toward skaters looking to progress in the sport.
Rising Stars runs once per week on Thursday from 5:20-6:05 pm. All participants must also be enrolled in either a Canskate or Fundamentals session.
We have a wonderful team of coaches from provincial to national levels who will be working on jumps, spins, stroking, and edges with these skaters in a challenging yet fun and engaging environment. We have only a few spots remaining, so we hope to see you there!
The audition cost is $25 and will run concurrently with our Rising Stars session on Thursday, September 18th.
Registration for the audition is available on Uplifter starting today!

WELCOME TO CANSKATE 2025/2026 SEASON
posted Sep 11, 2025, 2:24 PM
Pre-Can/Canskate/Fundamentals/Tween/Teens/Adults
Fall 2025
The East York Skating Club is very excited to welcome you to our Canskate Programs.
- Sunday Sessions - September 14th
- Tuesday Sessions - September 16th
- Thursday Sessions – September 18th
Equipment:
All skaters must have the following items:
- Sharpened Skates (Hockey or Figure Skates)
- We do not recommend plastic skates as it doesn't allow for proper ankle and knee bending
- Dull blades will not grip the ice
- CSA-Approved Hockey Helmet
- must be worn until completing level 5
- Recommended to have a cage while in Pre-Can
- Mitts/Gloves for hand protection & warmth
- Coat
- Skaters in pre-can/beginner may want waterproof pants. Skaters will be practicing how to fall and stand up, sitting on the ice, and they will get wet.
Please see the Skate Canada Video for more information:
Arena Entry:
- Please make sure to arrive early to allow for time to find parking, as our lot fills up quickly.
- You should also allow at least 15 minutes to put on your skates and helmets.
- For new families, we will have someone at the front to do an equipment check.
- On the first session, a volunteer will be at the front desk in the lobby to hand out nametags.
- Skaters will be required to put the sticker nametag on their helmets, and a coloured dot will be used to indicate their group.
- Skaters & Parents can then proceed downstairs and choose a changeroom to put on their skates.
Session Flow:
For the first session, our On-Ice Coordinator will group the skaters based on their current Levels. If they are new, they will automatically be placed in level 1.
For skaters coming from a different club, please email us any of their achievements so we can update their files/groups accordingly.
Over the first few weeks, based on their assessments and recommendations from the coaches, skaters may switch groups to find the best placement! A sticker on their name tag/helmet will indicate their group colour.
Pre-Can will stay with their coach for the entire session, for 30 minutes.
Canskate, Tween & Fundamental Skaters will have a group warm-up, 30 minutes of classes, followed by a group activity & cool down. Classes will cover 3 skating disciplines: Balance (forwards, edges, crossovers), Agility (turns, spins, jumps) and Control (stopping, backwards & speed). After a few weeks (once skaters are comfortable moving and the groups are set), skaters will rotate stations to see 3 coaches, each coach focusing on a particular discipline. Switching stations ensures all skaters who visit that coach will have the same quality instruction on the topic of the day. This allows for optimal progressions and opportunities to meet different coaches, benefiting from their unique coaching styles!
Teen & Adult Canskate Skaters will have a 5-minute warm-up followed by a group lesson based on their level. At the end will be a 5-minute session to ask questions and practice independently.
Badge System:
All skaters will earn ribbons and badges as they pass particular skills. They must receive a ribbon in agility, balance and control to gain a badge.
For Example, Agility 1 + Balance 1 + Control 1 = Stage 1
Some skaters are very strong in one discipline and may have multiple ribbons in one: for example, Agility 1 + Balance 1 & 2 and no Control. They cannot receive their badge until the Control is completed. Canskate is for skaters working on Badges 1-2, Fundamentals is 3-6.
As a reminder, a guardian needs to be at the rink in case anything happens, and we need to get to you quickly. =
Calendar:
In your UpLifter accounts, you can view a personalized calendar based on when your skater is registered. This will show if any sessions are cancelled due to holidays, etc.
- Log in to your account. On the top right corner, where it shows your name, there should be a drop-down arrow to select “My Account”. This will bring you to your profile.
- Click on the second circle labelled “Calendar” - You are also able to view the sessions you are registered for
Key Dates:
You may also refer to our Key Dates on our News Page https://www.eastyorkskatingclub.com/news/. This will highlight any start & end date/cancelled/special sessions.
Along with sending a reminder email, we will post information on our News Page & our Instagram Stories @eastyorkskatingclub
